The Problem with ICE

ICE, an acronym for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is an agency of customs police which mission is to “protect America from the cross-border crime and illegal immigration that threaten national security and public safety.” This agency was started in 2002, after the attacks of September 11th.

Since 2003, ICE has been doing its mission, but what they’re doing is wrong. ICE has been sending people back to their country, whether they were trying to enter it or were already in. That means that sometimes, some people without a legal immigration status might get deported. Deportation can split apart families, forcing children born within the US to be separated from their parents that would’ve illegally entered the states in those situations. ICE always excludes noncitizens and sometimes, mistakenly deports US citizens along with other people who have received the right to immigrate. Many people think ICE should be abolished when politicians think that the agency should just be “re-examined.”
