Line 3 and it's implications

What is Line 3?

Line 3 is the name of a pipeline expansion project to be able to bring almost a million barrels of tar sand in all of Canada. The Canadian government plans to build it in Alberta. Line 3 was proposed by a Canadian pipeline company named Enbridge, in the goal of building a new pipeline corridor through untouched wetlands and the treaty territory of the Anishinaabe people. It would not be an advantage to the planet.

Is it really necessary ?

Minnesota’s Department of Commerce stated that Line 3 oil is not necessary to the market. Instead of building Line 3, violating the treaty rights of Anishinaabe peoples and contributing to climate change, we could simply decommission the old Line 3 and transition to a renewable and sustainable economy. In addition to violating the treaty rights, Line 3 would violate Anishinaabe culture due to the fact wild rice is a centerpiece of that culture and is known to majorly grow in numerous watersheds Line 3 seeks to cross. It is well-past time to stop destroying and violating indigenous peoples and territories.

How can we help

Writing articles like this can be a good way of informing the population of the current issues. If you do not have a way to publish any articles or simply don’t have the time to, signing petitions online or just talking about it to other people such as family or friends can help a lot as well. People are talking to politicians, marching in protests and taking nonviolent direct action to be able to stop Line 3 from happening.
