BIPOC musical artists of November

Nathy Peluso

Nathy Peluso is an Argentinian-Italian singer based in Spain and was born in 1995. POPSUGAR describes her style as “flamenco-meets-trap music” and “Lady Gaga-meets-Selena.” Spotify even said that her ability to jump between sounds, languages and accents has been the reason for their emergence. Peluso is very known for fusing many artistic genres such as Latin pop, jazz and R&B in her songs. We recommend Ateo with C. Tangana, MAFIOSA and BUENOS AIRES.

DeVita

DeVita, born Cho Yoon-kyoung (Chloe Cho) in South Korea, is an R&B soloist. She was born on April 20th, 1998. Her music is considered a blend of contemporary R&B, hip-hop and soul. She gained popularity by releasing soulful tracks on SoundCloud. Then, the singer got signed to AOMG, Jay Park’s label, in 2020. We recommend Movies, All About You and Movin’ with PUFF DAEHEE.

Joyce Wrice

Joyce Wrice is an R&B singer from Southern California with Japanese and African-American roots. She was born on August 15th, 1992. She was drawn to the art of music because she was an only child and needed entertainment since her parents were quite busy. Her music is considered a throwback to the late 90s/early 2000s R&B. She notes as inspiration Tamia, Missy Eliott, Brandy, Luther Vandross and many more. We recommend Kaytra’s Interlude with KAYTRANADA, Must Be Nice with Masego and You.

Tierra Whack

Tierra Whack is a 26-year-old Black rapper. Whack was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Under the age of 25, she had already written a song with Beyoncé. Her album, Whack World, was less than 15 minutes long and received widespread critical acclaim. Pitchfork considers her an artist that toys with vocal processing and psychedelic melodies. We recommend Child Please, Fruit Salad and Walk The Beat.

Vagabon

Vagabon, born as Laetitia Tamko, is a Cameroonian-American multi-instrumentalist. She was born in Cameroon then moved to New York at 13. NPR said that her album, Infinite Worlds, feels like a book of poems. She includes tones of R&B and West African rhythms in her music. We recommend Full Moon in Gemini, Wits About You and 100 Years.
